Remarks

Expel air from syringe, remove needle and cap after collecting specimen. Anaerobic culture inappropriate for vaginal, cervical, throat, sputum and midstream urine cultures. Purulent material, aspirate or body fluid - Ambient: 24 hours

Eswab - Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 72 hours

Notes Specific site of specimen must be provided on culture tube and requisition. An aerobic culture will always be performed in conjunction with an anaerobic culture. When the aerobic culture has not been specifically ordered, an order for the aerobic culture will be placed by the laboratory.
