Celebrating our new MLTs
A special graduation celebration took place at our Operations Center on Wednesday, Jan. 31 for two newly certified medical laboratory technicians. Nikkole Donzella and Miranda Wilson completed their MLT degrees through SUNY Broome while working full time at Laboratory Alliance’s Operations Center. Each passed her ASCP certification exam on her first attempt and both are thrilled to have school behind them.
“These years have been long and full of unknowns and doubt, but I have come so far and finally feel like this amazing life is actually mine now,” said Miranda, who works in the Chemistry and Hematology departments. “This is an amazing field to be in and I can’t wait to inspire new lab techs! I want to be a part of the ‘growing’ of our own med techs and paving the way for the new lab techs that come after me.”
Nikkole agrees that it was a big commitment but it’s worth it. “I came to Laboratory Alliance in February of 2020 with a four-year degree in biology,” Nikkole said. “Covid was just arriving and we were busy. Once I began working in the Microbiology Department I knew this was a career that I loved so I started school in January 2021.”
Nikkole worked four 10-hour day shifts so that she had one day plus weekends and evenings to focus on school, which was all online through SUNY Broome’s Clinical Laboratory Technician Program.
CEO Rita Romano and co-workers applauded Nikkole and Miranda’s commitment to their education and their jobs, then everyone ate cake!
They are enthusiastic, ambitious and kind and Laboratory Alliance is grateful to have them on our team.
