ABOUT US: Laboratory Alliance is the area’s largest state-licensed laboratory, providing clinical and anatomic pathology testing to a 16-county region in Central New York. As the laboratory of choice for most local healthcare providers, more than 10 million tests are performed annually at our laboratories at our Operations Center in Liverpool and at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Manager of Revenue Cycle serves as a member of the leadership team and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the revenue cycle process including billing, collection, and outreach. The manager must be results-oriented; have the ability to independently analyze, evaluate, and forecast trends; possess sound knowledge of quantitative data analysis; and possess expertise in making precise business decisions that optimize revenue income in either the medical or laboratory industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Monitors and directs the activity of 3rd party billing company. Develops and maintains policies and procedures consistent with the Laboratory, State and Federal regulations
- Monitors and evaluates the activity relating to registration and the charge capture process.
- Interacts closely with all departments as needed to ensure proper charge collection and the billing of accounts and services.
- Prepares reports for audit, internal as well as Federal, State or Insurance Carrier requested.
- Responsible for monitoring the transfer of past due accounts to third party collection agencies and the monitoring of these accounts thereafter.
- Prepares and interprets analytical reports.
- Monitors completeness and accuracy of charges billed.
- Monitors billing regulations and their impact on the Lab.
- Negotiates contracts with 3rd party payers.
- Monitors payment by 3rd parties. Ensures payment is in accordance with contract.
- Monitors special billing to clients to ensure bills are complete and accurate (i.e. Nursing Homes, etc.).
- Oversees billing to owner hospitals.
- Oversees billing to clients to ensure bills are complete and accurate.
- Works to research and correct erroneous or missing registration data (i.e. missing diagnosis, wrong insurance, etc.).
EDUCATION: Relevant Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, economics, or statistics with at least 3 years of management level experience that demonstrates proficiency in accounting, data analysis, and possess an in-depth knowledge of medical or laboratory billing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS: Position is mainly in a clerical setting with minimal exposure to communicable disease, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment.

CONTACTS: Frequent interaction with executives, department managers, supervisors, coordinators, Finance Department staff, Information Systems staff, Human Resources staff, hospital management, laboratory clients and prospects. Responsible for ensuring the provision of laboratory services in accordance with the applicable accreditation authorities (i.e. NYSDOH, DNV). Performs the duties independently and initiates judgement in handling HR and management issues. SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Manager must possess extensive knowledge of revenue cycle data analysis; keen attention to detail; excellent collaboration and both written and verbal communication skills; superb analytical and critical thinking abilities; and advanced time-management and organizational skills. Must be able to communicate effectively and diplomatically; must be able to perform database report writing functions; have effective problem solving, decision making, supervise others, and must be able to make ethical and timely decisions with the ability to act calmly and rationally in crisis situations, and be able to gain and retain the respect and confidence of laboratory peers as well as the senior leadership at the two hospitals; must be able to interact effectively and confidentially with present and potential clients.
