POSITION: Manager of Human Resources

LOCATION: Laboratory Alliance of CNY, 115 Continuum Drive, Suite 2A, Liverpool, NY

ABOUT US: Laboratory Alliance is the area’s largest state-licensed laboratory, providing clinical and anatomic pathology testing to a 16-county region in Central New York. As the laboratory of choice for most local healthcare providers, more than 10 million tests are performed annually at our laboratories at our Operations Center in Liverpool and at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Manager is responsible for the coordination and overall management of Human Resources (HR) functions. The Manager supports Laboratory Alliance’s mission, vison and values and respects the confidentiality of information encountered. The Manager maintains flexibility to meet Laboratory Alliance's needs and accepts other duties as appropriate.

 POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Manager’s responsibilities include but are not limited to: employee recruitment, employee relations and communications, policy and procedures administration, conduct exit interviews, maintaining turnover rates, implementing and monitoring Performance Appraisal System on a yearly basis, facilitating new employee orientation, monitoring and tracking pre-employment physicals and yearly health assessments, recommending, evaluating, and participating in staff development. The Manager is also responsible for investigating employee complaints and recommending appropriate interventions and/or other corrective actions needed. Ensures all Human Resources policies and procedures, including job descriptions, employee personnel files, OSHA, NYS, etc.) Maintain current working knowledge of Labor Laws to ensure the organizations compliance with all federal and state requirements.

The Manager will establish and maintain a strong reputation with employees for follow through and will serve as a leader in all Human Resource matters. The Manager has frequent interaction with CEO, CFO, CIO, Director of Laboratory Operations, Director of Sales and Support Services, RRL managers, supervisors, coordinators, finance department staff, Information Systems staff, hospital management, lab clients and prospects so as to promote excellent service delivery, client retention and fiscal responsibility.

The Manager must possess proven ability to supervise others, must be able to make technical and ethical decisions, communicate and instruct/educate effectively and diplomatically; must have demonstrated effective problem-solving, decision-making and leadership skills; must be able to act calmly and rationally in crisis situations and be able to gain and retain the respect and confidence of employees, peers as well as senior leadership; must be able to interact effectively and confidently with present and potential clients; and must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field preferred
  • Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) or the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) or Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification preferred
  • 3-5 years proven working experience as HR Manager required

SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Strong organization, problem solving, and interpersonal communication skills required. Self-motivated, eager to learn, attention to detail, and team oriented.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

The work environment frequently varies based on tasks with low exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands are representative of demands that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The employee is regularly both stationary and required to move about. May frequently be required to operate a computer and other office equipment and/or a vehicle for extended periods, and frequently exchange accurate information with other staff and vendors in person and over the phone.  Ability to determine and detect differences in size, color, numbers, and letters, move about from location to location which may require traversing stairs, uneven surfaces both indoor and outdoor in all forms of weather, and have the ability to transport up to 10 pounds and occasionally transport up to 30 pounds.
