ABOUT US: Laboratory Alliance is the area’s largest state-licensed laboratory, providing clinical and anatomic pathology testing to a 16-county region in Central New York. As the laboratory of choice for most local healthcare providers, more than 10 million tests are performed annually at our laboratories at our Operations Center in Liverpool and at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.

POSITION SUMMARY:  

Under the general direction of the Information Systems Director and/or managers, the Information Systems Analyst may have frequent with laboratory personnel, pathologists, physicians, hospital employees, nursing personnel, physician office staff, visitors, vendors, regulatory and accrediting agencies and any clients of Laboratory Alliance.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

The implementation and support of various information and communication systems at all affiliated Laboratory Alliance sites.  Must gain sufficient expertise, hardware and/or software to train on and provide necessary support for these systems.  Will assist in documentation, procedures, and troubleshooting as well as database maintenance for assigned systems. Other duties assigned, as needed.

EDUCATION:  

BS degree in Medical Technology or life science or equivalent with ASCP or NCA certification preferred; two years’ experience in a computerized clinical laboratory and/or BS degree (preferred) in a computer science or related field.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS: 

The work environment frequently varies based on tasks. Exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

The  physical  demands  described  here  are  representative  of  those  that  must  be  met  by  an  employee  to  successfully perform  the  essential  functions  of  this  job.  Reasonable  accommodations  may  be  made  to  enable  individuals  with disabilities  to  perform  the  essential  functions. The employee is regularly both stationary and required to move about from work station to station. Frequently required to operate a computer and other office equipment and/or a vehicle for extended periods of time; to communicate and exchange accurate information with other staff and clients in person and over the phone; and determine and detect differences in size, color, numbers, and letters.  Occasionally required to move about from office to office, position one's self lower and higher to access files, and have the ability to move up to 30 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds.

 SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

Proven interpersonal and communication skills, ability to adapt to changing workload and stressful situations, ability to learn and work independently as well as in group situations, demonstrate analytical ability.  Valid NYS driver’s license and transportation.
