Position:    Facilities Maintenance Technician 

Location:  Operations Center; Liverpool, NY

POSITION SUMMARY:   

Under the direction of the Manager of Facilities, the Facilities Maintenance Technician s responsible for the day to day operations and for all mechanical, heating/cooling, electrical, plumbing maintenance including building safety and environment.  In conjunction with the Laboratory Safety Officer, as needed, works to maintain a secure and safe work environment; works with minimal supervision and has frequent interaction with all Laboratory Alliance staff; and adheres to and supports all established company policies and procedures set forth by Laboratory Alliance and applicable accreditation authorities (i.e. NYSDOH, DNV).

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Minor, maintenance, upkeep, repairs, painting (exterior and/or interior).. 
  • Conducts regular maintenance walk through and makes needed repairs or schedule outside professionals
  • Monitors all work until completion by inside or outside workers.
  • Exterior care/maintenance -contact outside contractors when needed for snow removal, landscape, debris removal, monitor exterior lighting, etc.
  • Help direct any office moves as directed, working with I.T. department for any cabling, etc.
  • Works with outside vendors under the direction of the Manager of Facilities –HVAC, refrigeration, generator, elevator, water systems, alarm and fire systems (sprinklers), pest control, etc.
  • Assists with oversight all new equipment installed at OPS and RRLs.
  • Assists safety officer and Facilities Manager in monitoring for air quality (xylene and formalin), noise, fire alarm testing, eye wash, drench hoses, emergency showers, hood certification, centrifuge maintenance and audits,
  • Responsible for most electrical and HVAC repairs and maintenance.
  • Responds to emergencies as needed.

EDUCATION:  

High School Diploma, BOCES/trade school or equivalent practical experience. Two years’ experience in general facility maintenance.  Keep current with continuing education as needed for certifications

Frequently required to communicate and exchange accurate information with staff and vendors, and operate a computer and other office equipment; determine and detect differences in size, color, numbers, and letters. Must be able to move up to 50 pounds without assistance or with a pallet jack or other equipment common to a maintenance department.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 

The skills required of the Technician include but are not limited to: Knowledge of standard facilities maintenance, ability to use resources to implement solutions, solid understanding of building maintenance, excellent organizational and leadership skills, ability to make ethical decisions, and effective and diplomatic communication, instruction and education.   Must have valid NYS driver’s license.   Must be able to act calmly and rationally in crisis situations and be able to gain and retain the respect and confidence of peers, staff and senior leadership. .  Must have no restrictions for exposure to paint, cleansers, and/or some chemicals that relate to the job.   Must be flexible to meet the needs of Laboratory Alliance (early morning, late evening, weekends, holidays, etc.)
