Position: Director of Revenue Cycle at Laboratory at Laboratory Alliance of CNY

The Director of Revenue Cycle, under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, serves as a member of the leadership team is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the revenue cycle including billing and collections for hospital work as well as outreach. 

Laboratory Alliance is the area’s largest state-licensed laboratory, providing clinical and anatomic pathology testing to a 16-county region in Central New York. As the laboratory of choice for most local healthcare providers, more than 10 million tests are performed annually at our laboratories at our Operations Center in Liverpool and at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.

Our Facilities:

  • The core or central laboratory is located at our Operations Center in Electronics Business Park in Liverpool, N.Y.
  • Our Corporate Offices on nearby Buckley Road in Syracuse house about 50 of the company’s management, administrative and support staff.
  • We operate two Rapid Response Laboratories (RRLs) in each of the acute care hospital sites. Here we provide onsite testing of general laboratory test procedures in chemistry, hematology, transfusion medicine and anatomic pathology. The RRL coordinates the transfer of microbiology samples and non-urgent tests to the Operations Center. We retain between 40 and 75 Laboratory Alliance employees at each RRL.
  • Our 11 Patient Service Centers are located in Onondaga, Madison and Oswego counties. They are all open weekdays, four are open on Saturdays, and appointments are not needed to have lab work performed.

 Responsibilities of the Director of Revenue Cycle include but are not limited to:

  • Monitors and directs the activity of third-party billing company.Develops and maintains policies and procedures consistent with the Laboratory, State and Federal regulations
  • Monitors and evaluates the activity relating to registration and the charge capture process.
  • Interacts closely with all departments as needed to ensure proper charge  collection and the billing of accounts and services.
  • Prepares reports for audit, internal as well as Federal, State or Insurance Carrier requested.
  • Responsible for monitoring the transfer of past due accounts to third party collection agencies and the monitoring of these accounts thereafter.
  • Prepares and interprets analytical reports.
  • Monitors completeness and accuracy of charges billed.
  • Monitors billing regulations and their impact on the Lab.
  • Negotiates contracts with third-party payers.
  • Monitors payment by third-parties.  Ensures payment is in accordance with contract.
  • Monitors special billing to clients to ensure bills are complete and accurate (i.e. Nursing Homes, etc.).
  • Oversees billing to owner hospitals.
  • Oversees billing to clients to ensure bills are complete and accurate.
  • Works to research and correct erroneous or missing registration data (i.e. missing diagnosis, wrong insurance, etc.).

The Director of Revenue Cycle has frequent interaction with executives, department managers, supervisors, coordinators, Finance Department staff, Information Systems staff, Human Resources staff, hospital management, laboratory clients and prospects.  The Director of Revenue Cycle is responsible for ensuring the provision of laboratory services in accordance with the applicable accreditation authorities (i.e. NYSDOH, DNV).   Performs the duties independently and initiates judgment in handling HR and management issues.  The Director of Revenue Cycle adheres to, and supports all established company policies and procedures set forth by Laboratory Alliance. Supports mission, vision and values.  All other duties as requested.

Skills required of the Director of Revenue Cycle include but are not limited to:  Must be able to communicate effectively and diplomatically, must be able to perform database report writing functions, must be able to supervise others, and must be able to make ethical and timely decisions.  Have demonstrated effective problem solving, decision making and leadership skills.  Must be able to act calmly and rationally in crisis situations and be able to gain and retain the respect and confidence of laboratory peers as well as senior leadership at the two hospitals.  Must be able to interact effectively and confidently with present and potential clients.     

Relevant Bachelor’s Degree, 3 years of leadership experience demonstrating professional communication skills.  Minimum 3 years of experience in Revenue Cycle Management required with laboratory experience preferred.
