Laboratory Alliance is the area’s largest state-licensed laboratory, providing clinical and anatomic pathology testing to a 16-county region in Central New York. As the laboratory of choice for most local healthcare providers, more than 10 million tests are performed annually at our laboratories at our Operations Center in Liverpool and at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.

Position Description: 

Under the supervision of the Rapid Response Laboratory Manager and the guidance of the pathologists and pathologists’ assistants, the Anatomic Pathology Processor assists in the preparation of surgical pathology specimens including general maintenance, stocking of the surgical pathology laboratory, preparation of specimens for special studies, patient registration, specimen accessioning, answering and directing telephone calls, and other duties as requested. 

Education: 

The Anatomic Pathology Processor must possess a high school degree, college level course work in allied health or natural sciences desirable.

Work Environment and Hazards: 

The Anatomic Pathology Processor may have exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment, includes exposure to fresh (non-fixed) tissue specimens.

Physical Demands: 

The Anatomic Pathology Processor position requires prolonged standing, some walking and sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching, eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity, ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols, use of computerized instruments, computer terminals, and other equipment common to a clinical laboratory and anatomic pathology laboratory; may require lifting up to 30 pounds or more.

Contacts: 

The Anatomic Pathology Processor may have frequent contact with patients, hospital employees, physicians, pathologists, nursing personnel, visitors, laboratory personnel, vendors, and regulatory or accrediting agencies.

Special Equipment, Skills, and other Requirements: 

The Anatomic Pathology Processor must have proven interpersonal and communication skills; ability to adapt to changing workload and stressful situations; strong communication skills with an appreciation for quality customer service, and strong computer skills preferred; experience in patient registration and order entry functions; extensive knowledge of diagnostic, therapeutic and disease terminology; and requires the use of equipment such as computer terminals, centrifuges, bone saw, telephones, copiers and fax machines.
