Stool, fresh fecal specimen in clean, leak-proof container.

Also acceptable: Transport Media (Cary Blair/C&S), 10% Formalin, Total-Fix, and sodium acetate formalin (SAF).

Transport

5-10 g stool in unpreserved stool transport vial (Min: 5 g).

Remarks

Do not use fecal Specimens that have been concentrated or treated with PVA fixatives.

  • For patients from, or with a history of travel to, a developing country, or who have persistent symptoms and/or are immunocompromised, it is suggested to order Ova and Parasites, Concentrate and Permanet Smear [QOAP] - https://www.laboratoryalliance.com/tests/display/2837
  • Add-on testing: within one week of collection.
