Collect | One 6 mL gray (sodium fluoride & potassium oxalate) top tube. |
Transport | 0.5 mL plasma at 2-8ºC. |
Remarks | TIME SENSITIVE. Collect specimen without tourniquet. Tube must be immediately placed on ice and transported to laboratory within 15 minutes of collection. If the blood cannot reach the laboratory where it will be assayed within 15 minutes, the blood should be centrifuged and the plasma removed. Place the labeled plasma sample and a cold refrigeration pack into a green biohazard bag for shipment. If a green biohazard bag is not available, a standard biohazard bag is sufficient. For inpatient hospital use only. If testing cannot be performed immediately, refrigerate sample at 2-8°C for up to 24 hours or freeze at -20°C up to one month. |
