Urine - no preservatice - protect from light

Also acceptable:

  • Urine preserved with 1 mL 6N HCI or 1 mL concentrated glacial acetic acid, protected from light
  • Catherized urine in sterile, plastic screw-cap container
Transport

2 mL random urine refrigerated (Min: 0.6 mL).

  • Wrap container in aluminum foil to protect from light.
  • Do not use preservatives
  • Do not use first morning void, late evening specimen (after 8:00 PM), or specimen after excessive fluid intake
  • Keep refrigerated and transport refrigerated (cold packs)
