| Collect | Collect a nasopharyngeal sample with the flocked mini-tip swab and then place swab in the Universal Transport Medium (UTM). |
| Transport | Specimen should be stored between 5°C and 30°C during transport. Specimens can be stored up to 7 days at 2-8°C. |
| Remarks | Pertussis Molecular Assay is for the detection of Bordetella pertussis and Bordetella parapertussis (whooping cough) in nasopharyngeal samples. |
| Stability | Ambient: 5 days; Refrigerated: 7 days. Do not freeze sample. |
| Unacceptable Conditions | Calcium alginate-tipped nasopharyngeal swabs or swabs in Amies transport medium. (The material is inhibitory to PCR assay.) |
