If the sample is kept at room temperature, phosphodiesterase activity will decrease phosphatidylglycerol concentrations. For same day results, specimen must be received before 12:00 p.m. Fluids must be in the laboratory before 4:00 p.m. for next day results. A patient history form (Requisition for Perinatal Center Lab; see link above) must be completed. Test should be ordered in conjunction with L/S Ratio.

PG% Mature Greater than 1.0%
L/S ratio greater than or equal to 2.0
Together with a PG greater than 1%, should be indicative of fetal pulmonary maturity.
