New PCR Test for Group A Streptococci In Pharyngeal Specimens for Outreach
Monday, June 7, 2021
Effective June 7, 2021, Laboratory Alliance's Microbiology Department will implement the use of a new PCR assay that detects the nucleic acids of group A streptococci (GAS), also known as Streptococcus pyogenes, directly in pharyngeal specimens.
This PCR test will be replacing our previously used gene amplification assay for GAS in pharyngeal specimens because it offers an improved service by providing shorter turn-around times.
