ABOUT US: Laboratory Alliance is the area’s largest state-licensed laboratory, providing clinical and anatomic pathology testing to a 16-county region in Central New York. As the laboratory of choice for most local healthcare providers, more than 10 million tests are performed annually at our laboratories at our Operations Center in Liverpool and at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The System Administrator (SA) plays an integral role in ensuring the integrity of our network and computer systems. System Administrators are responsible for managing, troubleshooting, and proactively updating hardware and software assets to prevent downtime or exploits from occurring. The SA will protect our critical systems and assets, build solutions, implement new software and hardware, provide training, and assist in developing the overall IT strategy. The main goal of the SA will be to ensure that our technology infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
System Administrator responsibilities/accountabilities include:
Level I
- Installing and configuring software, hardware and networks
- Ensuring security and efficiency of IT infrastructure
- Manage network servers and technology tools
- Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements
- Troubleshoot issues and outages
- Ensure security through access controls, backups and firewalls
- Upgrade systems with new releases and models
- Participates in on-call production support rotation
- Consistently demonstrates high standards of integrity by supporting the Lab Alliance mission and values and adhering to the Corporate Code of Conduct.
- Maintains high regard for member privacy in accordance with the corporate privacy policies and procedures.
- Regular and reliable attendance is expected and required.
- Performs other functions as assigned by management.
Level II – In addition to functions as level I are the following functions:
- May act as a project manager for technical projects
- Provides technical support on various applications in Lab Alliance.
- Handles the more complex tasks/assignments.
- Develops expertise to train IT staff on new technologies
- May train internal end users, as needed.
- Assists with annual budget
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences or related discipline with 1-3 years’ related professional experience (or Associate’s in Computer Sciences with a minimum of four year’s related experience).
- Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role
- Experience configuring and maintaining virtualized servers (Cisco experience is a plus)
- Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
- Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms
- Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management desired
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:
The work environment is primarily an office setting with low exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a health care environment.

Occasionally required to move about from office to office, position one's self lower and higher to access files, and have the ability to move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 30 pounds.
SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
System Administrators must have excellent communication skills since they may work directly with employees across our organization. SA’s also need a strong technical understanding of information systems to address issues that arise across the organization. Must be resourceful; possess the ability to diagnose and resolve problems quickly; possess patience and communication skills to communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and users; experience setting up and maintaining virtualized servers is mandatory.
