Technical Supervisor of Chemistry at Crouse Hospital RRL

 

The Technical Supervisor of Chemistry, under the direction of the RRL Manager and Chemistry Manager, serves as a member of the leadership team with oversight of the day to day operations of the Chemistry Department at a Rapid Response Laboratory (RRL) located at the Crouse Hospital.

 

Responsibilities:

The Chemistry Technical Supervisor's responsibilities include but are not limited to: staffing according to workload, developing and implementing continuous process improvement projects, interfacing with hospital administration and the 2 independent pathology practices, providing supervision and HR support to the Chemistry staff.  The Chemistry Supervisor is expected to serve as a liaison (when needed) between hospital administration and the senior management staff of Laboratory Alliance.  The Chemistry Supervisor has frequent interaction with directors, RRL managers, department managers, supervisors, coordinators, finance department staff, information systems staff, human resources, hospital management, lab clients and prospects so as to promote excellent service delivery, client retention and fiscal responsibility. The Chemistry Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the provision of   laboratory services in accordance with the applicable accreditation authorities (i.e. NYSDOH, DNV).   The Chemistry Supervisor is expected to perform their duties independently and utilizes good judgment in handling a variety of HR and operational issues.  The Chemistry Supervisor adheres to, and supports all established company policies and procedures set forth by Laboratory Alliance including the company’s mission and vision statements.  Supports mission, vision and values. 

 

The skills required:

The Chemistry Supervisor's skills must include, but are not limited to, the ability to supervise and mentor others, to make sound and ethical decisions, to communicate and educate effectively and diplomatically, to act calmly and rationally in crisis situations, to gain and retain the respect and confidence of laboratory peers as well as senior leadership at the hospital and to interact effectively and confidently with present and potential clients.   

 

Requirements:

The position requires a baccalaureate degree in medical technology.   The Chemistry Supervisor must qualify as a Medical Technologist under NYS Department of Health Regulation Part 58.15 and have a valid NYS License issued by the NYS DOE.  A minimum of six years of relevant clinical laboratory experience is required. 

 

The position may involve exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a health care environment.

 

The position requires prolonged standing, some walking and sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching, eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity, ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols, use of computerized instruments, and other equipment common to a clinical laboratory.  May require lifting up to 30 pounds or more.
