ABOUT US: Laboratory Alliance is the area’s largest state-licensed laboratory, providing clinical and anatomic pathology testing to a 16-county region in Central New York. As the laboratory of choice for most local healthcare providers, more than 10 million tests are performed annually at our laboratories at our Operations Center in Liverpool and at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the CIO, the Programmer Analyst develops, programs, tests and supports numerous internal business applications. This position provides our company with development and technical support for various internal applications and systems using structured and/or object oriented programming (SQL or related language) and testing techniques. The Programmer/Analyst may also develop, create, monitor, and schedule objects with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Analysis Services (SSAS), SQL Integrated Services (SSIS), and SQL Server database stored procedures, functions and views along with creating and maintaining custom web applications using .NET, ASP, VB, C# and JavaScript. May have contact with laboratory personnel, managers, directors, vendors, regulatory and compliance agencies.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyzes or writes specifications and develops application code in order to resolve production issues and/or provide business functionality.
- Using structured analysis and data design techniques, defines detailed business requirements, designs or redesigns business processes, interpreting information needs, and defines business specifications for new or changed automated solutions. Works with the user area to define test criteria and test cases. Tests new or changed information systems as assigned.
- Analyzes change requests to existing programs to include change impact, additions to program documentation, change identification and recommended change logic. Organizes and conducts unit tests of new or changed programs and maintains detailed records or conditions tested and results achieved.
- Researches, understands, and resolves system problems. Assists in operational rerun procedures as required.
- Prepares system and program documentation in accordance with specification provided to include file description, logic narratives, exception processing, report descriptions, and logic diagrams.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences or related discipline with a minimum of two years’ professional development/coding experience OR
- Associate’s in Applied Science of Computer Sciences with a minimum of four year’s development/ coding experience).
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:
- Low exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a health care environment.
- The work environment is primarily an office setting.

- Occasionally required to move about from office to office, position one's self lower and higher to access files, and have the ability to move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 30 pounds.
SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Prior experience working in the healthcare industry is a plus.
- SQL Server (used heavily as the back-end database and knowledge of SQL databases is required).
- Knowledge in various technical disciplines and languages, particularly Visual Studio.
- SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Analysis Services (SSAS), SQL Integrated Services (SSIS), and SQL Server database stored procedures, functions and views a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills; strong communications (listening, written and oral) skills.
- Familiarity with structured analysis techniques with emphasis on user relations, data gathering techniques, project management and data management.
- Familiarity with software development life cycle activities.
- Microsoft Access knowledge a plus to help us as we migrate away from that tool.
- Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, as per state guidelines for healthcare workers.
