ABOUT US: Laboratory Alliance is the area’s largest state-licensed laboratory, providing clinical and anatomic pathology testing to a 16-county region in Central New York. As the laboratory of choice for most local healthcare providers, more than 10 million tests are performed annually at our laboratories at our Operations Center in Liverpool and at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of designated Rapid Response Laboratory management staff and/or hematology and chemistry technical supervisors, contact may be frequent with patients, hospital employees, physicians, pathologists, nursing personnel, visitors, laboratory personnel, vendors, and regulatory or accrediting agencies. The Point of Care Coordinator utilizes independent judgment, directs, plans, reviews, and performs all duties for Point of Care Testing including but not limited to:
- Monitors all onsite and off-campus bedside testing
- Reviews patient test results
- Tracks quality control and quality assurance
- Oversees Point of Care proficiency testing
- Tracks and documents performance improvement
- Point of Care analyzer troubleshooting and vendor interaction as necessary
- Functions as an educator and/or researcher of new test methods and procedures
- Serves on various committees related to Point of Care Testing
- Actively participates in monitoring adherence to the compliance of NYSDOH standards as they relate to Point of Care Testing
- Performs other technical duties as needed
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology
- Qualify as a Medical Technologist under NYS Department of Education and NYS Department of Health.
- New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist license required. Limited permit or provisional permit may be accepted based on individual review/experience

- Exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances

- Work environment is primarily a hospital and laboratory setting
- The employee is regularly both stationary and required to move about from work station to station
- Frequently required to perform duties associated with the use of a computer and laboratory instruments
- To grasp small objects and perform tasks associated with eye-hand coordination
- Distinguish details of objects less than a few feet away and determine and detect difference between size, color, numbers, shades, and brightness, as well as differentiate sounds
- Frequently required to communicate with other staff and have the ability to frequently lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds
SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to adapt to changing workload and stressful situations
- Must have very good knowledge or skilled in this specialty testing area
- Self-directed with high levels of production and demonstrates excellent training and leadership skills
