POSITION: Patient Service Center Receptionist
LOCATION: Laboratory Alliance of CNY; Syracuse, NY
ABOUT US: Laboratory Alliance is the area’s largest state-licensed laboratory, providing clinical and anatomic pathology testing to a 16-county region in Central New York. As the laboratory of choice for most local healthcare providers, more than 10 million tests are performed annually at our laboratories at our Operations Center in Liverpool and at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under direction of the Department manager/supervisor, the PSC Receptionist is the first point of contact at a patient service center to the client. The PSC Receptionist has frequent and regular contact with patients, hospital employees, physicians/office staff, pathologists, nursing personnel, visitors, laboratory personnel, and regulatory or accrediting agencies
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Greets patients and interviews patients to obtain necessary demographic and insurance information; performs basic computer functions; including entry of patient demographics and order entry of test requests; registers and accessions patients in MISYS and secures required signatures and consent forms; responsible for ABN & MSP, schedules tolerances; assists phlebotomists with processing; may perform other duties as related to a collection station (i.e. ordering supplies, stocking supplies). Performs other duties, as assigned.
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma and one year of phlebotomy experience, required, and preferably experience in an outpatient setting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:
The work environment is primarily an office setting with low risk exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequently required to perform duties associated with the use of a computer and other office equipment; to communicate and exchange accurate information with other staff and clients in person and over the phone; and determine and detect differences in size, color, numbers, and letters. Occasionally required to move about from office to office, position one's self lower and higher to access files, and have the ability to move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 30 pounds.
SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Proven interpersonal and communication skills, ability to adapt to changing workload and stressful situations. Requires the use of equipment such as computer terminals, centrifuges, telephones, pneumatic tube systems, copiers and fax machines. Knowledge of basic medical terminology and/or science courses highly desirable. Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
