ABOUT US:  Laboratory Alliance is the area’s largest state-licensed laboratory, providing clinical and anatomic pathology testing to a 16-county region in Central New York. As the laboratory of choice for most local healthcare providers, more than 10 million tests are performed annually at our laboratories at our Operations Center in Liverpool and at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  The Director of Operations Center Laboratory, under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, serves as a key member of the senior leadership team with oversight of the technical operations located at the Operations Center; Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Cytology and Histology.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Staffing,
  • Budgetary preparation (review and approval),
  • Tracking volumes,
  • Continuous process improvement projects,
  • Interfacing with senior management, hospital administration and the two independent pathology practices,
  • Providing management and HR support to the technical managers
  • Serve as a liaison between technical managers and the senior management of Laboratory Alliance.
  • Responsible for ensuring the provision of laboratory services in accordance with the applicable accreditation authorities (i.e. NYSDOH, DNV).  
  • Performs duties independently and initiates judgment in handling a variety of HR and management issues. 
  • Adheres to, and supports all established company policies and procedures set forth by Laboratory Alliance. Supports mission, vision and values. 
  • All other duties as requested.

  • Frequent interaction with CEO, CFO, CIO, VP of HR, Director of Hospital Operations, Director of Sales and Support Services, Director of Billing and Compliance, RRL managers, department managers, supervisors, coordinators, finance department staff, Information Systems staff, Human Resources, hospital management
  • Lab clients and prospects so as to promote excellent service delivery, client retention and fiscal responsibility.

SKILLS REQUIRED OF THE DIRECTOR INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Must be able to supervise others
  • Must be able to make technical and ethical decisions
  • Communicate and instruct/educate effectively and diplomatically  
  • Must have demonstrated effective problem-solving, decision-making and leadership skills. 
  • Must be able to act calmly and rationally in crisis situations and be able to gain and retain the respect and confidence of laboratory peers as well as senior leadership
  • Must be able to interact effectively and confidently with present and potential clients.  
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills   

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology is required
  • Must qualify as a Medical Technologist under NYS Department of Health Regulation Part 58.15 and have a valid NYS License issued by the NYS DOE 
  • Must have a minimum of six years of clinical laboratory experience
  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19, as per state regulations
