Syracuse City School District students visit the main lab
Two students from the Syracuse City School District’s Henninger High School who are enrolled in the PTECH Clinical Laboratory Program toured Laboratory Alliance’s Operation Center today. Junior Victoria Clark and senior Daylisia Castro-Felder spent the morning at our main laboratory located in Electronics Park in Liverpool. Coordinated by our Education Coordinator Janet Clark, they began the tour by entering a requisition in Central Receiving where they learned about technical processing, then moved to Special Chemistry where Medical Technologist Sister Maria Grace Quartiero demonstrated the electrophoresis. Technical Supervisor Lisa Fingland showed them the high-tech CellaVision, reviewed urinalysis and some abnormal blood smears. In the Microbiology Department they processed plates and plate reading and in the Histology Department John McCoy, a histotech, reviewed the full process of embedding specimens, cutting the blocks and staining the slides. Their final stop was at the advanced level microscopes in the Cytology Department where Victoria and Daylisia viewed abnormal types of pap smears and lymphatic fluid.
