Remarks

Draw blood into citrate tube (light blue top) filled to the proper level (1 part anticoagulant to 9 parts blood). Invert tube 3-4 times to avoid clotting.

Stability

Ambient: Refrigerated Plasma; Frozen Plasma: 2 weeks

Unacceptable Conditions

Specimens that are clotted, hemolyzed, collected in the wrong tube, less than 90% filled, exceed the stability limits, or non-frozen plasma are unacceptable for testing.

Notes

Platelet-poor plasma must be frozen within 4 hours of collection into 2 plastic aliquot tubes. To obtain platelet-poor plasma, centrifuge tube, remove plasma, re-centrifuge tube, place into 2 plastic tubes, and freeze.
