Collect

One 5 mL gold (SST) top tube or 2 mL CSF.

Transport

2 mL serum or CSF at 2-8°C. (Min: 0.3 mL)

Remarks

Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Acute and convalescent samples must be labeled as such; parallel testing is preferred and convalescent samples must be received within 30 days from receipt of the acute samples. Please mark sample plainly as "acute" or "convalescent."

Stability Ambient: 2 days; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)
Unacceptable Conditions

Severely lipemic, contaminated, or hemolyzed samples. Other body fluids.

1.5 IV or greater: Positive - Presence of IgG antibody to Coccidioides detected, suggestive of current or past infection.
Coccidioides Antibody, IgM by ELISA0.9 IV or less: Negative - No signifcant level of Coccidioides IgM antibody detected.
1.0-1.4 IV: Equivocal - Questionable presence of Coccidioides IgM antibody detected. Repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful.
1.5 IV or greater: Positive - Presence of IgM antibody to Coccidioides detected, suggestive of current or recent infection.
