Anatomic Pathology Services

Cytopathology

The Cytopathology Department primarily assists in the diagnosis of cancer from exfoliated cells from any body sites. The cytology department is routinely staffed from 7:30 am. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is closed on weekends and holidays.

All specimens must be accompanied by a properly completed cytopathology requisition. It should be filled out completely. The patient history is essential. If tests from other laboratory departments are ordered, separate specimens should be submitted.

Cytology reports may be obtained by calling 410-7210 during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday or by calling Customer Service at 461-3008, during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Reports may be auto-faxed from our computer system on request.

Histopathology

The pathology staff of Onondaga Hill Pathology, P.C. provides diagnostic surgical and autopsy pathology services at Community-General Hospital.  The anatomic pathology department provides a variety of specialty procedures which include: frozen section examination of surgical specimens, lymph node protocols, estrogen/progesterone receptor and HER-2/neu assays, and a variety of immunohistochemical studies.

All pathologists are board certified and offer expertise in the areas of tumor pathology, hematopathology, cytopathology, and general surgical pathology.

Joby Swerdlow, M.D. is the director of the department. 

Surgical pathology reports may be obtained by calling 492-5096 during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday or by calling Customer Service at 461-3008 during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Reports may be auto-faxed from our computer system on request.
