Laboratory Alliance Employees Serve as Career Coaches

About 30 Laboratory Alliance employees served as volunteer career coaches for Henninger High School 9th grade students participating in the Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) program. The 35 students enrolled in the Clinical Lab Technology and Health Information Technology programs met with the coaches at Laboratory Alliance’s Corporate Office on March 1, 2017.

Syracuse City School District 9th Graders Visit Laboratory Alliance

Laboratory Alliance of Central New York is part of a collaborative partnership between the Syracuse City School District, Onondaga Community College and the Manufacturer's Association of Central New York to train high school students for careers in the healthcare industry. Titled Syracuse Pathways to Technology (P-TECH), the program was launched the week of Aug. 15 and on Friday, Aug. 19, the first Henninger High School students enrolled in the Clinical Lab Technology program visited Laboratory Alliance for the first time, toured the labs and learned first-hand what is involved in becoming a laboratorian.

Guidance Counselors Visit Laboratory Alliance

As part of our continuous efforts to raise awareness of laboratory career opportunities, Laboratory Alliance hosted a group of Syracuse City School District guidance counselors on April 20. Following a presentation by our Operations Center Director Rita Romano, they toured the laboratory and attended presentations by many of our staff members. They appreciated this professional development opportunity and left with a greater understanding of the valuable work we do.

Continually looking for ways to improve, the principles of Lean Management were implemented at our Rapid Response Lab (RRL) at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in 2012. A fabulous laboratory redesign was achieved as is shown in these photos.

Our Rapid Response Laboratory at Crouse Hospital

The Lean principles were implemented over two phases beginning in March 2012 and the new design created additional space for the staff to complete their processes more fluidly. The Crouse Hospital RRL operates efficiently and effectively, and staff will continue to work as a team to incorporate Lean principles in the RRL workplace.

Halloween Characters and a Retirement Farewell

Several characters showed up at a lunchtime party on Halloween at the Operations Center, a special occasion on behalf of Janet Singer who retired after many, many years in our Microbiology Department. Janet is pictured in the center as the Phantom of the Opera.
